Consider “concept” routinely used translate Sanskrit term, vikalpa; nirvikalpa accordingly rendered “nonconceptual.” vikalpa has also been “imagination,” “discriminative construction,” “discursive thought,” “discrimination.” Related terms, such kalpanā (conceptualization/mental construction) kalpanāpoḍha (devoid conceptualization/mental construction), have various ways. Besides question these terms any given text, should relate them current scientific uses term “concept”? More generally, relationship between conceptual one central recurring issues for tradition altogether, bring fresh insights content? And help illuminate even resolve some older controversies?
